MASSAGE

I have studied everything from CranioSacral to Thai massage forever! I have had an extensive practice in Los Angeles, New York City, London and The Hamptons. My specialty is now Sport Enhancement and Rehab. For the first 10 years of my practice I thought that massage could solve almost any problem. Now I know it is a beautiful synergist to other modalities.

Massage is a functional gateway for me to understand your movement patterns and neurological restrictions. The brain holds tension in the tissue to protect you. I can identify that tension and communicate to the brain that it is now safe to release that hold. The result is enhanced functionality and better efficiency throughout the entire body. Then we move on to Personal Training to reinforce the changes.

PERSONAL TRAINING

I begin every client relationship with a detailed health history interview, a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and muscle testing based on the work of NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT). I measure each client’s movement quality before I instruct them into movement quantity.

During your health history interview I want to know about your old and current injuries even if you think they’re, “no big deal.” Why? The number one way to get hurt is through an old injury that has never been fully resolved or an asymmetry/imbalance in your body. Think massage as well here.

Every 6-8 weeks or so I will re-test, re-evaluate and re-create new customized workouts for you. This ongoing process helps us both keep track of your progress and reassess your goals and direction. My philosophy is to Protect - Correct - Strengthen. In that order.

NKT - Brain (re)Training

NeuroKinetic Therapy® corrective movement system is a sophisticated assessment and treatment modality that addresses the causes of dysfunctional movement/coordination problems at their root, in the motor control center, the cerebellum. The motor control center stores these patterns and directs their completion through the spinal cord and the muscles. The motor control center learns through failure. A good example is a baby learning to stand. Each time the baby tries to stand and falls the motor control center stores the successful aspects of each attempt. When that program contains enough successful information the baby is finally able to stand.

NKT is a neurology based modality looking for dysfunctional patterns of movement. There is always an overactive and an underactive relationship between two muscles or groups of muscles. We release the overactive muscle and activate the inhibited muscle, resulting in a new neuro-pathway to the brain. When muscles are working properly we get balanced workload and the nervous system can let the tension, which is there to keep you safe, go. No more pain!

BREATHWORK / MEDITATION

The breath is the single most important concept of living a full life. It is the first and last thing we do as humans. It is that important! And most of us breathe incorrectly.

“The research shows for the first time that breathing -- a key element of meditation and mindfulness practices -- directly affects the levels of a natural chemical messenger in the brain called noradrenaline. This chemical messenger is released when we are challenged, curious, exercised, focused or emotionally aroused, and, if produced at the right levels, helps the brain grow new connections, like a brain fertiliser. The way we breathe, in other words, directly affects the chemistry of our brains in a way that can enhance our attention and improve our brain health.” - Science Daily Article

I will work with you to assure that you are first breathing correctly and second maximizing your breath. From manually releasing the diaphragm and other breathing muscles, to coaching you into fuller awareness, we will learn the depths of this potential together. This is timeless technology.

This may or may not expand into mediation depending on your goals and desires.

BODY WEIGHT MOVEMENT

If you don’t use it, you lose it, they say. Body weight movement is arguably the best way to achieve total brain-body connection. Understanding where you are in time and space allows for you to move around freely and safely. Daily tasks like hurrying along or reaching for your bag are no longer a threat to your nervous system. With basic floor work we will confirm that your intrinsic core is communicating clearly with your brain to stabilize your spine. From there we can move to more advanced postures like balancing and single leg work. All of this is progressive to you becoming stable in order to create mobility. I will create a session of movement that will fit your needs. Movement has remained the same for eternity, we just have fancy names for it now.

POST REHAB

The body is so complex. The way that our modern medical system views and handles wellness is astonishing. From specialist MD’s who cannot address anything beyond their hyperfocused scope or expertise, to the insurance companies deciding what you need, it is no wonder that we are collectively in a state of poor health and chronic pain. Once you have moved through the system most people are left to their own resources before they are fully healed and ready. After your surgery and after your sessions run out with your PT, I am happy to take over. By this time you are well on your way back to the life you deserve to live. I will meet you where you are and take you to where you want to go. This includes clearing any residual restrictions, enhancing mobility and increasing strength. Most of us are not living up to our true potential. Together we can change that!
